International Tournament in Freestyle Wrestling "Grand Prix Ivan Yarygin - 2022" began in Krasnoyarsk on January, 27. Traditionally there will be many interesting participants especially among women. Team members from the USA, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Belarus sent their applications to participate the tournament. The review of the women's tournament is presented by the Wrestling Federation of Russia.

Debut of the new coaching staff

The Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix will be the first representative tournament in which Russian team will wrestle under the new coaching staff led by Magomedrasu Battalov and Olympic champion Saipulla Absaidov. While preparing for the tournament, the Russians had two training camps - in Moscow and Krasnoyarsk. The team consists of 63 athletes, including the most titled representatives of Krasnoyarsk, world championship medalist and two-time European champion Olga Khoroshavtseva (up to 57 kg) and world championship medalist and European champion Khanum Velieva (up to 68 kg), as well as three world championship medalist and European champion Irina Ologonova (up to 55 kg).

Mongolian invasion

The second biggest women’s wrestling team according to the number of participants will be the Mongolian team. The team includes 27 athletes. The core of the team is young athletes. Among the most experienced ones, it is worth mentioning the medalist of the Tokyo Olympic Games Bolortuy Bat-Ochir (up to 53 kg), as well as the winners of the world championships of different years Dolgorzhav Otgondargal (up to 50 kg), Sumiya Erdenehimeg (up to 55 kg) and Baatarzhav Shoovdor (up to 59 kg).

Central fight

The most interesting fight among women at Grand Prix Ivan Yarygin – 2022 may be the battle between World Championship medalist and two-time European champion Olga Khoroshavtseva and Rio Olympic champion, Tokyo bronze medalist Helen Marulis from the USA (up to 57 kg category). Olga Khoroshavtseva has been fighting in the categories up to 53 and 55 kg for the last 2 years but aiming a new Olympic cycle, she has returned to the category fighting up to 57 kg. Helen Marulis, on the contrary, after winning in Rio in the category up to 53 kg, moved to the category up to 57 kg and has already managed to take a bronze in Tokyo and the World Championship in Oslo. Perhaps this confrontation will become one of the main ones in the new Olympic cycle.
